IT Services - Computer maintenance - General tech assistance
Overall, you want your technology to “just work”. Someone who will help tackle the obstacles that can come about perhaps because things weren’t set up quite right in the first place, or maybe because software makers prefer to steer you down paths that are more profitable for them! Also, everyday issues such as e-mail access, sometimes the printer won’t print, you need help with an online application process, etc.
Computer maintenance

Migration from an old computer/device to a new one
The transfer of personal files, for example things like printer configuration, migration of saved passwords, web browser data, your e-mail setup, basically as much as possible to ensure that your new computer is as ready to use and as similar to your old computer as possible.
After all, we're sure that you have better things to do with your time than having to tinker with your computer to get things working the way you want them to!
Windows upgrades
As of October 2025, Windows 10 will have reached the end of its supported life with security updates, so in order to maintain as ideal a level of security as possible, you might want to upgrade to Windows 11. This can often be accomplished with your current setup left intact, or with the migration service described above. Customers are still using computers that I originally built to run Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 which are over ten years old and are now running Windows 10 / 11.
General maintenance / hardware upgrades
Hard drive / Solid State Drive upgrades, Memory (RAM) upgrades, processor upgrades, laptop screen replacements, etc. For example, with a decently-spec'd desktop PC, upgrades can be performed many years later to bring them in line with modern expectations for how computers should perform.
Internet / networking problems

Problems getting on the Internet
It could be a problem with your web browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox), Internet security software, how your computer connects to the broadband router (e.g. WiFi, Ethernet), a problem with the router or your router's connection to your Internet Service Provider. We will take a methodological approach to narrow down the problem and solve it.
Problems logging into accounts online
If you're having trouble getting back into an online account (e.g. your e-mail), we will do our best to help you get back in, as well as double-checking that your means of account recovery are up-to-date. Two-factor authentication can also sometimes help keep an account secure, and we can explain what it's about and help you pick the set-up that's best for you.
Help with an online application
Twenty years ago or so, applying for most things in society would have been done on paper. These days it's mostly done online, and if that's something you would like some help with, no problem!
Issues with devices connecting to the network
Most of the time, connecting up a device is as simple as plugging in a network cable or entering a WiFi password, however some devices don't give you the option to enter a WiFi password, or sometimes the WiFi network settings don't work well with the device and need adjusting.
We can also help with WiFi reception issues, or supplement the weak spots of your network with other technologies to ensure reliable connections.
General protection

Computer/device security
The most common threats are no longer traditional viruses and trojans. Instead, scammers are making contact or using scam messages on peoples' devices in order to empty bank accounts or steal user data.
We help with advice to attune peoples' caution to this reality as well as advocating other precautions such as a good backup system, and providing security-oriented tweaks to your device's web browser in an effort to reduce the chance of exposure to these scams.
Since prevention is the best remedy, we are also happy for you to contact us for advice after having received a potentially suspect communication, but we can also help with the clean-up after such a scam has been successful.
Data backup systems to protect against damage, corruption and silly mistakes
If you have information that you don't want to lose, having at least a single backup of your personal data is infinitely better than none.
Our backup systems are very simple to use, they cover that most basic type of backup, as well as more comprehensive solutions to provide better protection while not sacrificing ease of use or backup data accessibility. We also provide encrypted backup systems, for example to better protect off-site backups of data.
Password management strategies
Many people make two mistakes these days:
- believing that they have to remember their passwords;
- not having a reliable record of those passwords.
The most important point is to have a method of storing passwords that works for you, and we help our customers find the best way for them, as well as easy techniques for coming up with more secure passwords.
